What an appointment!

So today was my second OBGYN appointment and I think I'm going to remember this one for a long time. It began normally enough with the doctor running behind. Rather than being annoyed by this, I was actually loving the peaceful stillness of the waiting room. James was at home with his fantastic, wonderful, ever helpful Godmother and I was willing to just kick back and enjoy the wait. An hour after my appointment time, the doctor was ready to see me.

The physical exam was quick and then we got to the ultrasound. Our little bean was declared to be growing perfectly and had a wonderful, strong heartbeat at 157 beats per minute. I even was able to see the heart fluttering this time, which is something I couldn't see at our first ultrasound with James. It was absolutely amazing to watch!

I then went to give blood for testing. I should preface this by saying that I have been having a difficult time staying hydrated and what I can eat is neither large nor highly caloric. So, they stuck me and drew the first 5 or 6 vials. Then, that vein just stopped giving blood. The nurse tried 3 other veins with no success, before calling in a second nurse who managed to find a deeper vein that was willing to give blood.

As they were filling the 8th (or was it 9th?) vial of blood, I began to feel light headed, very, very light headed. The room began spinning and I broke out in a cold sweat. Realizing what was happening I struggled to to stay conscious and managed to moan something about feeling awful. The nurses helped me on to a bed in the other room and after a few minutes of reclining, I didn't feel quite as much like I was dying. I was able to sit up, open my eyes, and smile, though I still felt very weak. I moved to the waiting room, sat and sipped water, made my next appointment, and sat down to sip more water.

Finally, I was able to drive home to a very happy James and Sarah. As a bonus, it turned out that James hadn't napped while I was gone! So after Sarah left, I was able to put James down for a nap and go take one myself. Now that I'm up, I'm still not feeling 100% better, but hopefully Mike will be home soon and I will be able to spend the rest of the evening relaxing and recovering.
