As most of you already know from this little surprise that you found in your email inbox on Thanksgiving...
...James is going to be a big brother!
The downside to this fantastic news, however, is that I now have to be pregnant for the next 8 or so months. If you remember my pregnancy with James at all, I'm sure you realize that I do not find this whole baby growing process to be very much fun (even if the end result is well worth it).
I was feeling very optimistic that this pregnancy would be better. I was only nauseous sporadically during the day, and had few food aversions (something that started at 4 weeks last time around). Then, a few days ago, things changed. The nausea has ramped up (though still not as bad as last time) and the food aversions have kicked in full force.
The funny thing is that my food aversions are completely different from last time around. During my last pregnancy, two of the very few things that I could tolerate were burgers and tacos, and I couldn't stand fruit and vegetables. Now, instead, I'm finding that all meat is absolutely intolerable, and all I want is fruit, salads, and veggie subs with lots and lots of black olives! Yum!
In related news, today was my first OBGYN visit for this pregnancy, and I have to say it was nice to be back. I just adore Dr. Bernstein and it was so nice to see her genuinely excited about our growing family.
This was just an initial office visit, so we reviewed some of the basics and then talked a bit about delivery. She is 100% on board with trying for the VBAC (whoo! hoo!), so I really hope that ends up working out. She did caution me that I will not be able to be induced (unlikely to be a problem) and that if the baby shows any signs of distress that she will insist on an immediate C-section (not surprising). Still, I am optimistic about my chances and as this is my last opportunity to successfully deliver vaginally, I need to give it a try.
James was less than thrilled with the visit and eventually wiggled himself free of his stroller. He then proceeded to charge around Dr. Bernstein's office trying to get into everything, until I trapped him in my lap, which led to some very pitiful sobbing. Thankfully, it looks like his godmother will be able to babysit him during my next appointment on Tuesday, which should be very long as it includes a physical exam and ultrasound.
Too bad this ultrasound will not be able to tell us the sex. I am dying to know if this baby is a boy or girl! Though, something is making me think it's a girl..
